Known for tracking government budgets and fiscal data, as BudgIT's user base grew, the complexity and volume of data requests increased, creating a significant workload and limiting accessibility to Nigerian economic data for the public.
The Solution
By developing the Bimi AI API, citizens can now query economic information, receive detailed breakdowns, and download relevant reports with analytical insights. The project followed a structured approach: understanding data structure, analyzing common queries, considering resource constraints, defining the scope, setting success metrics, and mapping the technical workflow.

The Result
The Bimi AI Chatbot was launched in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on January 30, 2025. This occasion was graced by the Publisher of Premium Times and CEO of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID); the Founding Executive Director of International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR); the Senior Presidential Aide on Citizen and Leadership; and the Co-Director, Africa, of MacArthur Foundation.
It has since processed over 600 data requests.
